Volume Lashes

Classic vs Volume

Va Va Volume

Exciting news ladies (and the occasional gent)...We are now offering Volume lashes! To those in the know you'll be cheering loudly right now but for those of you who have no clue I'm about to open your eyes literally and figuratively.

Traditionally lash extensions have been applied individually to each of your own lashes. Yes that means hundreds of tiny silk hairs are placed on each of your eyes (that is why it has been said that a lash extensionist has the patience of a saint). But now we can apply MORE than one superfine lash to each of yours. In some cases we can apply three, four, five or SIX! You do the math.

Now I know what you're thinking, how can that be good for your own lashes? Surely that will be way too much for them to hold. Like wearing falsies permanently. WRONG! The beauty of these, besides their jaw dropping volume, is the lightness of the lashes used. We have 0.07, 0.06 and 0.05 in stock as opposed to the old 0.15, 0.18 and 0.20.

So to summarise, you can INCREASE the number of lashes on your peepers and do LESS damage to your own natural lashes. AND they'll look fuller for longer so you can delay your ususal relash appointment by at least a week.

So you can have your cake and eat it too! Which is fabulous because what else would one do with cake???

*Catch: volume lashes are $20 more than individual lashes. Sorry, but otherwise they really would be too good to be true!

Style Story: Golden girl Nicola Peltz

Nicola Peltz

The Golden Girl

Who is Nicola Peltz? The 19 year old cutie has popped up on our radar lately as she turns out flawless outfit after flawless outfit on the campaign trail for the new Transformers movie. Surprisingly, she’s been on the scene for five years now and you may remember her heavily critiqued performance in The Last Airbender (2010). This New York City native appears to have lucked out with a model mom and billionaire dad while she’s often spotted front row at Fashion week. It appears that she’s picked up some style tips along the way and we are loving her style choices to date including Prada, Stella McCartney, Saint Laurent and Australia’s own Dion Lee. We’re taking cues from her golden brilliance this winter as she manages to look chic, sexy and WARM.

Lashes and #Farshun – AW 2014 Beauty Trends from the runway

It’s #farshun darling and these are the winter beauty trends spotted on the runway and the off duty models in New York, London, Milan and Paris. Here’s how to make the look work for you and what lashes you should choose.

Morning After the night before:  The slept in, smudgy, smoky under eye make up as seen in Roberto Cavali, Oscar De la Renta and Tom Ford.

Work it with lashes:  Go for super long and curly lash extensions as using eyeshadow on the bottom can make small eyes look even smaller so curly lashes will balance this out by opening up your eyes.  They need to be long as this is quite a dramatic look and average looking lashes will just be lost.

Give it the flick: Winged eyeliner that gives the effect of a cat eye.  As seen in Dolce and Gabbana, Herve Leger, Rag and Bone, Karen Walke

Work it with lashes: Lashes that are longer on the ends (cat’s eye) work perfectly with this look. Think long, straight and super glossy. This is doesn’t work for everyone’s eye shape so consult with your lash extensionist to see if it will work for you.

Maleficent Lips: Dark, super sexy lips as seen in Zimmermann, Rebecca Minkoff and on Angelina Jolie in Maleficent the movie.

Work it with Lashes: Less is more when it comes to eye make up with this look as the attention is all on the pout. This mean’s that lashes can also be the star of the show as long as they are bold and thick. This will mean your peepers will still be ‘dressed’ to impress but your lips will be the talking point.

Nudist: Beautiful, barely there make up with a fresh faced appeal. Go for luminous skin and soft, pale pink lip colour with matching cheek stain. As seen in Stella McCartney and Jason Wu.

Work it with Lashes: Your lashes will shine bright like a diamond with this look. Keep them soft, short and very natural looking. Siberian mink lashes would be a luxe option. They will add to the overall ‘I just woke up like this’ effect. No one needs to know otherwise ;-)

Style Story: Boldly Kylie

Boldly Kylie

The Kardashian Klan have certainly reinvented themselves of late and it’s the youngest member, Kylie, who has full my attention.  I’m loving everything from her fashion choices to her makeup looks as she’s edgy, sexy and bold. The theme of Kylie’s style story is bold. This is clearly illustrated by her makeup looks with both striking brows and luscious lashes that are perfectly paired with nude lips. To get her look with eyelash extensions book in at the city salon for a Va va voom set. If you’re lusting after glamourous lashes.. look no further. We’ve got you covered ;-)

DIY eyelash extension Removal

(Only If you absolutely can’t get in to the salon)

We’ve all experienced misbehaving lashes that are in desperate need of a relash but you don’t have:

a) Time

b) Money

c) All of the above.

Obviously returning to a professional and getting them to use the proper solution to dissolve the glue is the preferable option. By far. But sometimes a girls gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.
The solution lies in your kitchen. Nature’s wonder product of the moment, coconut oil, can be a life saver in this situation.
Never, EVER pull out lashes. That is an absolute no-no as it can take weeks and sometimes months to grown back lashes that you’ve yanked. Rather follow these quick steps:

1.    Thoroughly cleanse your lashes. The oilier the remover the better.

2.   Make yourself an at-home steamer by boiling some water in a  kettle (never ever in a microwave), letting it sit for 5 mins then pouring it into a bowl. It doesn’t need to be boiling when it goes into the bowl, just hot enough to produce steam. *Be careful when handling the hot bowl* and place it on a counter so that you can lean your face above the bowl. Don’t go too close to the hot water but place a towel above your head to trap the steam. Steam your face for a few minutes.

3.   Now it's time for the star of the piece. Cover two cotton tips in coconut oil. Place one above the lashes and one below. Pinch them together and gently pull away the lashes. Repeat and reload with more coconut oil if required.
Focus on eye at a time and it’s best to be stationed in front of a mirror to check on the process.

4.  Once you’re satisfied that they’re all removed, wash your face to remove any oily residue and moisturise as steam can be quite drying for the skin.

Of course it’s preferable to have a salon removal and, at Sydney Lashes, we’ll treat you to a lash treatment afterwards.. but this is the next best option.

Gratitude amongst the Craziness

Gratitude amongst the Craziness

I've experienced extreme anxiety to the point of ridiculousness when trying to choose an outfit before an event. So much so that I'm embarrassed to admit that the thought of just not going has often seemed like a good option. The barrage of self loathing and insecurity is a nightmare and truly terrible for the soul. It may sound petty and I can just imagine anyone male shaking his head at this point but I know I'm not alone.

I was chatting to a client recently and she completely related to the experience but her advice was so profound and SPOT ON.. that I had to share it with you all. She spoke about the concept of gratitude. Of being in the middle of a storm of anxiety and stopping for a moment to find something to be grateful for. The next time you're stressing about what to wear before an important meeting.. flip the anxiety on it's head and appreciate that you are part of an important meeting. Or if you're getting dressed for a date and you're panicking because everything looks wrong.. Take a second to appreciate the fact that you're going on date! There is someone special that wants to spend time with you. By shifting your focus from everything that is "wrong" about you to the amazing things that you have made happen in your life you will shut down the negativity and the anxiety will abate.

This might be a little profound for a Thursday morning but it's coming up to the weekend and if I can spare anyone tears during getting ready to go out.. mission accomplished.

Eyelashes are the new Breasts

Lashes are the new breasts

Former call girl and author of the hugely popular ‘Diary of a Call Girl’ series Tracy Quan claims that ‘Eyelashes are the new breasts’. In her blog for the Daily Beast she says ‘Maybe you can’t invest in larger breasts right now but an inexpensive pair of lashes can also give you an instant lift..’

Hmmm.. What do you think?

What do Kim Kardashian and Nicole Kidman have in common?

Besides the obvious “K”and much less obviously they both use eyelash extensions. When it comes to the regal and eternally elegant Kidman this might come as a surprise to hear but she’s actually the perfect example of what a ‘natural’ set of lashes can look like. I’m forever showing people that extensions don’t need to look trashy or fake. When it comes to the beautiful and bold Kim K more is obviously more.. even under Kanye’s careful “guidance”. This is a look I can achieve for my clients called ‘Va va voom lashes’. Patience is a virtue here as it takes quite a bit longer to apply more lashes for that dramatic effect but it is definitely worth it for that WOW effect. Honestly, the number of people that have extensions would surprise you. Take a closer look at your ‘genetically blessed’ friend or that beautiful and yet make up free girl at the gym as they may be giving nature a little helping hand. So whatever, or should I say, whoever, is your desired effect it can definitely be achieved.

Amplifeye Lash Fortifier

Look out lash ladies there’s a new wonder product on the market

What is it?

It’s a topical lash and brow enhancer that’s supercharged with three peptide complexes and 10 antioxidant botanicals.

In a nutshell, it’s steroids for your lashes.

Key Ingredients:

Natural extracts of Green Tea, Borage, Saw Palmetto, Evening Primrose, Nettle, Rosemary Leaf, Ginseng, Apple, Sugar Cane and Witch Hazel.

*Unlike most lash serums on the market it doesn’t contain the ingredient prostoglandin which can have serious and potentially permanent side effects like staining of the eyelids, a gradual colour change of the irises and general redness/itching. NASTY STUFF

How does it work?

It uses a liposomal delivery system to carry amino acid-rich peptides and antioxidants to the follicle level. This promotes cell rejuvenation and increased lash and brow growth.

Why we’re loving it:

It works! I also love the concept of using it in conjunction with lash extensions.  You can have perfect lash extensions WHILE treating and growing your own.

Where you can get it:

We now have it in stock at the Macquarie Street Salon and we’re also offering it as lash treatment. See our services menu for prices. Treat yourself!

The best bit is that you can use it at the same time as extensions. Grow your own and fake it till you make it ;-)

Why Men are Attracted to Women with BIG Eyes & How you can make your Peepers POP.

Lash babes, the research is in and scientific studies suggest that men are attracted to women with larger eyes. Why?

1.    Large eyes, fuller lips and big breasts are all indicators of higher levels of estrogen and women with increased estrogen are more fertile.  So basically they’re after babetown baby making machines! #animalinstincts

2.     Men prefer neotenous (childlike) faces because they are biologically programmed to seek a younger and therefore more fertile mate. These types of faces have the following features: large eyes + a large, curved forehead + small nose + small chin = KATE MOSS

What You Can Do:

·      Eyelash extensions, with lashes that are longer at the ends, can elongate your eyes.

·      Try applying a creamy, white eyeliner pencil to the inner rim of the lower lash line.  Follow       with mascara on your lower lashes to frame the eye.

·      NEVER use dark (black or any such colour) along the bottom lid as this will close the eye.

Go on Bambi, get out there and claim your man.

Red Alert: Sensitive Eyes

stop irritant.png

I have been receiving alot of questions lately about lash extensions for people with sensitive eyes. I can honestly say, hand on heart, that I have never had a problem with any of my clients experiencing discomfort from my lash extensions. I attribute my 100% success rate to two things:

1) Sticky Situation: The Glue

The glue I use is:

  • professional use only
  • hypoallergenic
  • black
  • medium consistency
  • low fumes
  • 10 second drying time

An easy way to identify a 'nasty' glue is by its smell. I think it's worth noting that it is in my best interests as well as yours to only work with a safe glue as I definitely don't want to breathing in toxic chemicals all day long.

2) Going the distance: Lash Application

I place the lash extensions at least 2/3mm away from your eyelids. This is a delicate process as the extension needs to be close enough to appear seamless but far away enough so as not to come into contact with your skin.

I see so many bad extension jobs that are actually painful for the client as they are poking into the soft skin around the eye or in some case the eye ball itself!! Don't let yourself fall victim to such a fate by ensuring that you go to a reputable extentionist and ask them about the  glue they use. I am always happy to discuss the lash extension process with clients and if they have sensitive eyes I request that they let me know how the extensions are feeling the next day. A good set of eyelash extensions should be weightless and feel undetectable.

Be safe ladies and trust your instincts. If you don't feel comfortable with a lash extensionist don't trust them with your eyes!

Diamond Lashes

Diamonds are forever.. and now your lashes can be too!

Ladies, the Diamond Lashes have arrived! Imported from the UK these lightweight, silk fibres are the latest trend in eyelash extensions. The industry has been abuzz with mink and silk lashes for so long that it's incredibly exciting to have a new luxe product to work with!  I’ll be recommending them to clients that are looking for a premium lash that is soft to the touch and long lasting.
